The uniforms were pretty. The game was not.
In Thursday night’s Week 10 opener, the Raiders and Broncos had more penalties than first downs.
Each team had 11 penalties. Each team had 10 first downs.
Via Bill Smith of NextGenStats, that’s only the second time it has happened since 1950. The other such outcome occurred when the Buccaneers played the Seahawks in 1976, the year both teams were expansion franchises.
On Thursday night, both teams also had more penalties than points. Denver won, 10-7.
The win moves the Broncos to 8-2. The loss drops the Raiders to 2-7.
The Broncos’ league-leading pass rush dropped Smith six times, helping Denver to a seventh straight victory.
BOONE, N.C. (AP) — JC French IV threw a season-high 352 yards and Georgia Southern held off Appalachian State 25-23 on Thursday night.
Appalachian State trailed 22-3 midway through the third quarter before AJ Swan threw a short-yardage TD pass, and then Jaquari Lewis broke loose on a 27-yard touchdown run early in the fourth that made it 22-16.
Swan’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Barnes capped an 11-play, 66-yard drive that ended the scoring with 1:56 remaining. The Eagles later converted on second-and-6 to help run out the clock.
The Virginia Tech Hokies opened the 2025-26 college basketball season on Monday with a 98-67 win over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at Cassell Coliseum. Forwards Tobi Lawal (20 points, 12 rebounds) and Amani Hansberry (19 points, 13 rebounds) each had double-doubles to lead the Hokies.
Freshman sensation Neoklis Avdalas scored eight points and dished out nine assists in his college debut. The 6-foot-9 guard struggled from the field (3 of 13), but he did an excellent job of leading Virginia Tech’s offense, turning the ball over only once, and playing terrific defense.
PHOENIX (AP) — Jalen Green scored 29 points in his Phoenix debut, Devin Booker added 24 points and the Suns beat the short-handed Los Angeles Clippers 115-102 on Thursday night.
Green, who missed the Suns’ first eight games with a right hamstring strain, played 23 minutes and was 10 of 20 from the field including 6 of 13 from behind the 3-point line.
The guard was acquired from Houston in the offseason in the seven-team trade that sent Kevin Durant from Phoenix to the Rockets.
The Denver Broncos hung on to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders in an ugly 10-7 victory on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season. Here’s a sampling of how fans and pundits reacted to the sloppy game on Twitter/X.
This is a throwback Thursday night football game. The kind we grew accustomed to 5-6 years ago. Just an ugly, mistake-filled mess.
