Phillies star Bryce Harper took batting practice on Tuesday evening ahead of the team’s game against the Yankees and plans to do so again on Thursday prior to the team’s home opener at Citizens Bank Park.
Harper underwent offseason Tommy John surgery, and continues to progress in his recovery. It is unlikely that Harper plays right field this season for Philadelphia, but will be in position to be the team’s full-time designated hitter while his tendon continues to heal.

Witnessing a hole-in-one during the Masters Par 3 contest isn’t rare, in fact, it’s essentially a yearly occurrence. What is rare is making back-to-back aces, but lightning struck twice for Seamus Power on Wednesday afternoon.
While the first couple of hours of the Masters Par 3 contest didn’t produce a hole-in-one, Power got the party started on the 8th hole.
The Irishman hit a wedge just past the flagstick allowing the backstop to do the work for him as his ball perfectly trickled into the hole.

Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo is not a fan of Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah.
Verdugo, not exactly known for being the most subtle of baseball players, appeared on a baseball podcast and had some harsh words for Manoah’s style on the mound.
The 26-year-old said that he believes Manoah shows up opposing players when celebrating. To Verdugo, that’s a bridge too far.
“If it’s a genuine reaction and it’s for the boys, not directed towards somebody, then yeah (it’s fine),” he told the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast.

This MVP race is an extremely close call, and that should be fun. But the discourse around Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo has turned toxic.
In his first appearance in front of the media since being hospitalized on March 8, Kansas coach Bill Self announced he will return to the Jayhawks sideline next season.
“I am 100% positive I will be coaching at the University of Kansas this upcoming season and hopefully many more after that,” Self told reporters Wednesday.
Self was initially admitted to the hospital after “complaining of chest tightness and balance concerns.” He underwent a “standard heart catheterization and had two stents placed for the treatment of blocked arteries.

Former Arizona guard Kerr Kriisa has committed to play for the Mountaineers, according to a Wednesday afternoon report from Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
Kriisa, a native of Estonia who has represented his country internationally, has been a cornerstone of a rejuvenated Wildcats program under coach Tommy Lloyd. His 5.1 assists per game led the Pac-12 in 2023, after ranking second in the conference the year before with 4.7 assists.
With Kriisa running the point, Arizona earned No.
Archie Manning is very proud of Arch, and his father Cooper, for how they approached the most highly-scrutinized recruitment in recent college football history. In an era where NIL exists and social media reins king, the first grandson of football mostly kept to himself.
Only he and his immediate family knew what was going on throughout the process. Not Eli, not Peyton, not Archie. Just Arch, Cooper, Ellen, and his brother and sister. Well, and the coaches.

The Masters Champions Dinner is a tradition that brings past champions of Augusta National together for some story telling and good eating. The host is always the prior year’s winner who also gets to build the menu and pays the tab. The 2022 Masters Champion, Scottie Scheffler, was this year’s host and many were looking forward to his Texas-themed menu options.
Well, it’s officially happened — Jim Nantz will be replaced by a robot at The Masters this weekend.
OK, maybe not officially, but the robots are coming for us, boys and girls. It’s been happening across grocery stores and fast food chains across the world for years, and now they’re coming for our golf.
Apparently, the Masters app — one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind — is debuting a new AI announcer this week thanks to the fellas over at IBM Watson, who have spent years training a language model to learn the game of golf.
