Apr. 10—MINOT — The Blue Jay softball team came so close on Thursday.
Twice.
Head coach Mike Soulis and his crew dropped 2-1, 12-11 to Minot in the team’s conference opener. Soulis and the Jays will be back in action on Saturday for a home game against Mandan. Game No. 1 of the doubleheader is slated to begin at noon.
Jamestown opened the scoring in the third after Sydnee Bartsch induced Avery Graves to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

The Carolina Hurricanes fell 5-4 in a shootout to the Washington Capitals Thursday night at Capital One Arena.
The Canes blew a two-goal lead, but then rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime, before ultimately losing in the shootout.
After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour spoke with the media in D.C. Here’s what he had to say:

MANITOWOC – The Hornets banged out 11 hits, led by Sierra Krahn with three hits, including a home run.
Tenley Kuehn limited the Ships to only one hit on the mound as Preble earned the Fox River Classic Conference win.
Denmark 3, Luxemburg-Casco 0
LUXEMBURG – Shaelyn Kraschnewski shut down the Spartans on one hit over seven innings, striking out three and walking none as the Vikings earned the North Eastern Conference win.
The game was scoreless until the fifth when Denmark’s Macey Mleziva singled in a run.
ATLANTA (AP) — Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. will have his injured left knee reevaluated next week as he works to return to the Atlanta lineup after ACL surgery last year.
Acuña, who tore his left ACL on May 26 and had surgery on June 6, will travel to Los Angeles for the checkup, Braves manager Brian Snitker said Thursday.
Acuña has been taking live batting practice, but has not been cleared to do any start-and-stop running or cutting, Snitker said. The 27-year-old slugger has not run out of the batter’s box in his workouts.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Jo Adell became the third player in Angels history to homer twice in the same inning, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward also homered twice and Los Angeles routed the Tampa Bay Rays 11-1 on Thursday.
Adell led off the fifth against Zack Littell (0-3) with first first homer this season for a 3-1 lead and capped an eight-run fifth inning with a three-run drive against Mason Englert. Adell matched a career high with four RBIs.
Ward homered on the game’s second pitch and Nolan Schanuel hit an RBI double in the second.
DETROIT (AP) — Cade Cunningham had 36 points and eight assists, lifting the Detroit Pistons to a 115-106 win over the New York Knicks on Thursday night in a possible preview of a first-round matchup in the NBA playoffs.
New York was without starters OG Anunoby (thumb) and Josh Hart (knee) due to injuries and failed to clinch the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference.
All-Star guard Jalen Brunson briefly left the game late in the third quarter after rolling his left ankle but returned to finish with 15 points, missing 10 of 15 shots.
BOSTON – It was another nightmare for the Boston Bruins.
Not only did they lose to the lowly Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 Thursday night at TD Garden, but it was also a few former Bruins who hammered the nail into Boston’s coffin. Ryan Donato registered his first 30-goal season, Nick Foligno scored twice and Tyler Bertuzzi added a goal en route to victory. Patrick Maroon was the only former Bruin not on the scoresheet for the Blackhawks.
“If we got (Maroon) in there we would have had the whole Bruin trifecta,” Foligno said with a laugh. “Yeah, it’s nice.
