GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The afterglow of Florida’s national championship run won’t fade for some time.
The offseason also has arrived, along with plenty of storylines for coach Todd Golden.
The price of Golden’s success
UF athletic director Scott Stricklin has rewarded national championship-winning coaches 10-year deals and nice raises. Golden is due a sizable one.
Golden agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2030 with a $1 million pay bump after last year’s 24-win season, leaving his salary at $3.6 million entering the NCAA Tournament — or 34th nationally.

Jim Larranaga isn’t lying about this insane recruiting story.
The University of Miami basketball coach fired up Twitter Thursday to tell the story about a recruit being bit by a dog on a recruiting trip. It wasn’t just any dog. It was the recruit’s dog.
Here’s how Jim tells the story:
“True story: When I was an assistant at UVa, we flew recruits in a private jet—totally legal. One weekend, we had 4 kids from NY. Our Lear Jet had 2 pilots, a flight attendant, and we served breakfast on board. First-class all the way,” Jim writes.
Jose Luis Ballester earned a spot in The Masters field by winning the 2024 U.S. Amateur, and while his opening round score of 76 wasn’t worthy of any sort of headline, what the young Spaniard did while playing the iconic Par 5 13th hole at Augusta National certainly was.
Playing alongside World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas on Thursday, Ballester needed to relieve himself as he made his way to the 13th green.

There’s nothing quite like going to a baseball game, kicking back, and downing a hot dog, but a pair of Chicago Cubs fans took it a bit further by doing their best Lady and the Tramp impression, which was caught on camera.
And believe it or not, they may not even be the wildest part of the story.

MLS owners and executives discussed potential changes to the league’s calendar once again on Thursday, but punted on making any of those changes in time for the 2026 World Cup.
Instead, at a board meeting in Chicago, they “authorized a second phase of exploration into a potential move to the international soccer calendar, along with continued evaluation of the league’s regular season and playoff formats,” MLS said in a statement. “Any potential changes would not take effect until the 2027 season at the earliest.

There is no denying winning is in Hailey Van Lith’s DNA. It’s not simply that she reached an NCAA Elite Eight every season of her five-year collegiate career. It’s that she did it with three different programs in differing roles each time.
“I’m very willing and open to adapting and that’s necessary for the next level,” Van Lith said after the Sweet 16 round in the Birmingham 3 regional. “I think [WNBA teams] are seeing that in me at this point, that I’m willing to morph and restructure myself to help any program win. And so I really hope they see value in there.
AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Phil Mickelson’s attempt to turn back the clock one more time at the Masters got off to a rocky start.
The 54-year-old three-time Masters champion opened with a 3-over 75 on Thursday, leaving him well back of the leaders. He is in jeopardy of missing the cut for the first time since 2016 and only the fourth time in 32 appearances at the famed Augusta National Golf Club.
Mickelson didn’t speak with reporters after the round, which he culminated with bogeys on No. 17 and 18.
