The Toronto Maple Leafs’ 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night didn’t just give them control of the second-round series—it put them in the franchise record books.
According to the league, it marks the first time in 62 years that Toronto has taken a 2-0 lead in multiple best-of-seven series during the same postseason.
The NHL PR account reacted to the Maple Leafs’ win on Wednesday, noting Toronto’s holding a 2-0 series lead for the second time in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs after doing so in the first-round series.

LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) — Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz says he’d like to play for another club sometime.
“I’m definitely keen to leave my comfort zone at some point and experience something new,” Wirtz said in a Sports Illustrated interview published on Thursday. “I know the football locker rooms well enough and am convinced I would quickly fit in anywhere.”
The 22-year-old Wirtz has a contract with Leverkusen to 2027 but has been linked with a potential move to league rival Bayern Munich, Premier League side Manchester City, and Spanish giant Real Madrid.

A first-ballot Hall of Famer, Thomas cemented himself as one of the most accomplished and most decorated athletes to ever step foot on an NFL field. Selected third overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2007 NFL Draft, Thomas became one of just five players in history to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first 10 seasons.
Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury “is a tireless worker.”
That was the first thing Washington GM Adam Peters voiced, describing Kingsbury, during Peters’ appearance on Tuesday on the “Pat McAfee Show”.
Peters then recounted a recent story to illustrate Kingsbury’s work ethic. “It’s unbelievable how much he works,” continued Peters. Peters then described how Kingsbury has been watching tape of players for the Commanders draft, schemes, and plays of the best offenses in the college game in the offseason.

Gloucester-Hartpury are hurtling towards another Premiership Women’s Rugby crown. Only Saracens now stand in the way of a third successive domestic title and, on this evidence, these “warrior queens” of the West Country are unlikely to be dethroned.
The Washington Commanders used the five draft picks they had in the 2025 NFL draft to add a handful of weapons to both sides of the ball. Offensively, they added an offensive tackle, a running back, and a wide receiver. Defensively, they added a linebacker and a cornerback. Their lack of attention to the defense during free agency and the draft has been scrutinized, but Adam Peters and Dan Quinn stand by their decisions.
Every team has been analyzed, praised, criticized, and graded for its draft selections.
LONDON (AP) — England has brought in batter James Rew to replace Jordan Cox in the squad for the one-off cricket test against Zimbabwe starting on May 22.
Cox has been ruled out after sustaining an abdominal muscle injury during the English County Championship.
The 21-year-old Rew would make his England debut if selected for the match at Trent Bridge after getting his first senior call-up. He is averaging 54.21 with the bat for Somerset in the County Championship.
Cox was injured playing for Essex against Somerset on Monday.
Mitch Marner’s third-period goal lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
Marner’s go-ahead goal came after Toronto had already clawed back twice from one-goal deficits.
The Leafs first tied the game late in the first period with a Max Pacioretty tip-in, power-play goal, and again in the second when William Nylander finished a two-on-one.
Max Domi then scored to give Toronto its first lead of the game at 17:09 in the second frame, but the Panthers’ Anton Lundell tied it for Florida early in the third.
PHILADELPHIA − As with every draft class, there are certain veterans who are technically put on notice with a potential challenger for his job.
It’s no different for the Eagles, even though they are defending Super Bowl champions. They selected 10 players in the NFL Draft from April 24-26, plus signed seven more undrafted free agents.
Clearly, the Eagles have more depth than most teams, so they don’t necessarily need their rookies to play right away. And with eight of the 10 picks coming in Rounds 4-7, it’s likely that most won’t be ready to do so.
