Here’s what has stood out from the latest playoff games of the second round.

What is wrong with the Boston Celtics to cause them to drop two games to the New York Knicks to start their 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series? Not only that, but they lost the contests on their own home court of TD Garden after being up in the second half of the game by as much as 20 points.
From effort to decision making, coaching, and health, there are a host of things to point to that are not going right for Boston right now.
NEW YORK (AP) — Pinch-hitter J.C. Escarra came through with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and the New York Yankees, held hitless into the seventh, rallied past the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Wednesday night.
Cody Bellinger homered with one out in the seventh for New York’s first hit off Padres starter Dylan Cease, who exited moments later with a cramp in his right forearm.
Max Fried tossed seven splendid innings in a pitchers’ duel with Cease before San Diego scored twice against the Yankees’ bullpen to build a 3-1 lead in the eighth.
The Duke Blue Devils finished with the third-best basketball recruiting class in the 247 Sports 2025 men’s basketball final player rankings, and they may not be done.
Currently, all three of head coach Jon Scheyer’s incoming recruits rank inside the top 25 of the final rankings.
Duke’s top recruit is the two-time National High School Player of the Year, Cameron Boozer, who led his Columbus High (OH) team to four straight state championships. He finished his high school career ranked as the No. 3 overall player in the class and the top power forward in the country (247 Sports).
For the second game in a row, the Boston Celtics blew a massive lead. And, for the second game in a row, the New York Knicks stunned Boston on its home floor.
Prior to Wednesday night, no team had rallied from 20-point deficits to win consecutive playoff games, but the Knicks made history behind oppressive defense, crisp offensive execution and resourceful play in their 91-90 triumph at the TD Garden.
NEW YORK — Hours before the Yankees hosted the San Diego Padres for a rubber match at Yankee Stadium, Aaron Boone took a question about his team’s league-leading offense.
“We’ve got a lot of firepower,” the manager said, in part, a night after the Yankees scored 10 runs in the seventh inning of a 12-3 win.
Such a forceful explosion didn’t repeat itself on Wednesday, but the Yankees did drop a few bombs in a 10-inning, 4-3 win. The back-and-forth affair ended with a pinch-hit, walk-off sac fly from J.C.

Disney-owned ESPN took another blow on Wednesday, as the company announced that ESPN+ had lost subscribers in the latest quarter. Again.
Per Front Office Sports, the sports network lost 3 percent of its entire subscriber base on its ESPN+ platform since the end of 2024. Importantly, with 24.1 million paid users, the current total subscriber numbers are roughly the same as they were in mid-2022.
So in two years, in a time period where interest in sports has continued to grow and the platform has been home to multiple big events, it has gained virtually no new signups. Not great news.
