As they fight for footing in a crowded Eastern Conference play-in race, the Chicago Bulls have lost one of their stars for the season.
Bulls guard Zach LaVine will undergo surgery on his right foot that will keep him out of action for four to six months, the team announced Saturday afternoon. Per Chicago, the surgery is expected to be performed this coming week.
LaVine, 28, has not played since spraining his right ankle during the Bulls’ 116–110 win over the Toronto Raptors on Jan. 18.

Singing the national anthem before a sporting event seems like a rather thankless job. Most people have an idea of how the American or Canadian versions of the song should sound and will quickly express an opinion if it sounds too different.
The scrutiny over singing the national anthem is more intense before a nationally televised spotlight event like the NHL All-Star Game. Before the 2024 edition of hockey’s midseason showcase, Canadian country music duo The Reklaws took the ice to perform their nation’s anthem and fans did not care for the pair’s slower, twangy rendition.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon has been designated to return off injured reserve, and his practice window has opened ahead of next Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
McKinnon has been on injured reserve since Christmas Eve with a groin injury, but would be a significant addition to the Kansas City passing game for Super Bowl LVIII. In 12 games this season, McKinnon has caught 25 passes for 192 yards and four touchdowns, serving as the Chiefs’ go-to pass-catching back.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams is seen by most prognosticators as the top quarterback on the board in April’s NFL draft and with the Chicago Bears holding the first pick, there’s a distinct possibility that he could end up in the Windy City.
So it’s no surprise that Williams’s camp went out of its way to squash a narrative that was started by Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports, which indicated that Williams had no interest in playing football in Chicago.

Veteran quarterback Sean Mannion, who spent last season on the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, is retiring from the NFL and will join the coaching staff of the Green Bay Packers, according to a report from ESPN’s Brady Henderson.
Mannion is expected to work with quarterbacks and the passing game in Green Bay for coach Matt LaFleur. Henderson noted in his report that Mannion was destined to coach, as his intelligence and understanding of the game had been praised by those associated with him.

Could Jaromir Jagr — one of the greatest hockey players of all time, throw his name into the political arena?
Who knows? Whether he does or not, he already has one vote.
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, because you probably had it circled on your calendar, but there was a presidential election in Finland this week. Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb will now face ex-Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in a run-off, but enough about them.
