The Cubs shocked the MLB world on Monday when it was reported that former Brewers manager Craig Counsell would take over David Ross’s position as manager, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported first.
The issue with this news, though, is that the Cubs never announced that Ross was fired or if he resigned from the organization. He was signed through the 2025 season, too. This is what led to many fans being confused about the news.
Ross took over as the Cubs manager in 2020 after originally retiring from the team in 2016, the year Chicago won the World Series after a 108–year drought.

Ric Flair was responsible for all sorts of dirty deeds during his legendary wrestling career, but did he ever do something as dastardly as steal an opponent’s signs?
Flair paid a visit to the Michigan football team in Ann Arbor on Monday, an appearance that coach Jim Harbaugh said “brought the enthusiasm to a new level” in the meeting room.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s college football program is being investigated for sign-stealing.

The Mets are hiring former Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza as their new manager, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network and Joel Sherman of the New York Post were the first to report the news. The Mets’ new president of baseball operations David Stearns brings in Mendoza, who spent 15 years with “The Pinstripes” including the last four seasons as the Yankees bench coach.
Mendoza replaces former Mets manager Buck Showalter, who was fired in October after the franchise’s season finale against the Phillies.

In March 2022, the Chargers thought they made a great deal when they signed Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson. He was coming off of a second-team All-Pro selection and with his stock higher than it had ever been, Los Angeles signed him to a massive five-year deal worth $82.5 million—only to trade him a year later.
The pair never worked out and the Chargers traded him back to the Patriots for a swap of late-round picks earlier this season, prompting general manager Tom Telesco to apologize to players while attending a team’s defensive backs meeting in Week 6.

The Cubs will hire former Brewers manager Craig Counsell as their next manager, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported on Monday.
This news was shocking for MLB fans as David Ross was signed through the 2025 season as the team’s manager. Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts even said Ross was the team’s “guy” after the season ended in dramatic fashion with the Cubs just marginally missing the playoffs.
Counsell spent the last nine seasons as the manager of one of the Cubs’ NL Central rivals.
