As the LSU women’s basketball team aims to repeat as national champions in 2023–24, its schedule will include a triumphant homecoming on the court for star forward Angel Reese.
LSU released its nonconference schedule for the upcoming campaign on Wednesday, and the slate includes a road matchup pitting Reese and the Tigers against Coppin State of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Dec. 20 in Baltimore.
A native of nearby Randallstown, Md., Reese, who rose to acclaim at Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, will play in her home city for the first time in her collegiate career.

Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg plans to retire, according to a Thursday afternoon report from Jesse Dougherty and Barry Svrluga of The Washington Post.
The announcement comes amid a rough season for Washington, which is currently last in the NL East at 58–69, four years after winning the World Series. Per the report, a press conference is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 9.
Strasburg, 35, has pitched just 31 1/3 innings in the last three seasons and none in 2023.

Former Patriots receiver Julian Edelman is heading to Fox Sports this NFL season to join the network’s NFL Kickoff show.
This won’t be Edelman’s first experience as an analyst on national television. The three-time Super Bowl champion will be leaving Inside the NFL, where he’s spent the past two seasons. He retired from the NFL after the 2020 season.
Edelman will replace new Broncos coach Sean Payton on the show after the coach spent one season working as an analyst before returning to the NFL.

August 24th, or 8/24, has become colloquially referred to as Kobe Bryant Day, in honor of Bryant’s two jersey numbers.
So it’s fitting that his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, announced a permanent tribute to the legendary Hall of Famer. On another extremely fitting day.
On February 8th, 2024, or 2/8/24, the Lakers will unveil a Kobe Bryant statue out in front of Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Another “8/24” date.
Vanessa Bryant posted a video announcing the statue, with the Lakers saying it would immortalize “Kobe’s legacy.

Every year, certain factions of people on social media accuse the NFL of being entirely scripted. The idea is that teams and players receive a script during the preseason, and they must follow it throughout the year. The Baltimore Ravens decided to have some fun with that idea in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday.
And, if they’re right, it sounds like the Baltimore Ravens are going to reach the Super Bowl. Several players mentioned that their “script” has them making the big game this year.

Kyrie Irving has won gold medals on three separate occasions while playing for Team USA, but if he had it his way, those three accomplishments never would have happened. Or so he says.
During a recent Twitch stream, which I’m sure was filled with incredibly insightful dialogue, Irving explained that he sees himself as an “international player” even though he’s played with ‘USA’ on the front of his jersey throughout his career.
“I consider myself an international player even though I played on Team USA,” Irving said on the stream.
