As Brock Purdy enters his first season as the 49ers full-time starter, the sophomore quarterback has a lot of lofty expectations to try and meet. Although he was a seventh-round pick, Purdy played so well down the stretch last year that people already think he can lead San Francisco to a title.
49ers Hall of Famer Steve Young is one such analyst who is behind Purdy, believing that Purdy’s success last year is already tangible. Young saw so much potential in Purdy that he compared him to a famous Hollywood protagonist.

Detroit Lions QB Teddy Bridgewater set the new standard for jersey numbers in today’s preseason game against the Jaguars.
And by that, I mean Teddy Two Gloves actually followed through on his word and wore No. 50, thus setting the internet ablaze and making history. Unreal move from an absolute legend who absolutely should be immediately inducted into Canton for this.
Stick this bad boy STRAIGHT into the Hall of Fame. Front and center:

Teddy Bridgewater is really rocking that number 50pic.twitter.

This is not how 2023 was supposed to go for the Yankees.
New York entered the season with high hopes, riding the positive vibes of center fielder Aaron Judge’s record-breaking 2022 and subsequent return in free agency. However, an injury to Judge and a historically difficult division have conspired to land the Yankees in last place in the AL East at 60–62.
Despite this, manager Aaron Boone remained adamant Friday night that New York believes it can right the ship.
“I talked with the team last night,” Boone said.

Ohio State wrestler Sammy Sasso was shot during an incident near the university’s campus in Columbus.
The Columbus Dispatch said that police responded to reports of a shooting just before 8:30 pm on Friday night.
Authorities did not reveal the victim’s name following the shooting. However, on Saturday morning, OSU wrestling coach Tom Ryan put out a statement that confirmed one of his wrestlers — Sasso — sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the incident.

Sammy Sasso, an All-American wrestler at Ohio State, was shot in Columbus Friday night, according to statements from the Buckeyes’ wrestling coach and athletic director.
Sasso, a redshirt senior, was shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery around 8:30 p.m. ET. After reportedly identifying himself as an Ohio State wrestler, he was transported to the Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, where he was reportedly in serious condition according to The Plain Dealer; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Lions quarterback Teddy Bridgewater made the unorthodox decision to wear the No. 50 as a quarterback, taking advantage of the NFL’s looser number rules. The veteran chose a higher number while most quarterbacks are sticking with a number between 1 and 19.
Bridgewater had worn the No. 5 throughout his entire career regardless of team, but Detroit running back David Montgomery currently has that number for the Lions. Therefore, Bridgewater just added a zero.
Despite the league allowing a greater variety of numbers for positions, fans still have not gotten on board.

Since the moment the clock began ticking on Panthers quarterback Bryce Young’s future as a blue-chip prospect, concerns about his stature have abounded.
The first sentence of his 247Sports scouting report from Nov. 2018, in fact, reads, “Has a slight frame and needs to bulk up and add some size and strength.”
The weight has come—Young, listed at 183 pounds as a recruit, has bulked up to 204—but the height has not. The Heisman winner is actually listed an inch shorter with Carolina than he was in high school.

Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was taken into custody on Friday night in Southern California, New Orleans confirmed in a statement on Saturday afternoon. Graham experienced a “medical episode” on Friday in what they believed “to be a likely seizure.” Graham’s episode resulted in him “becoming disoriented” and arrested by police.
“He [Graham] was taken into custody by local authorities and transported to a local hospital for evaluation … and spent the night under medical supervision and testing,” the statement read.

Jimmy Graham was taken into custody Friday on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance after cops found him wandering in traffic, according to reports. The New Orleans Saints said it was a medical issue.
The tight end was seen acting erratically and walking the streets near a southern California resort, according to TMZ. He reportedly resisted when police tried to cuff him.
Authorities took him into custody for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer — both misdemeanors.
