If at first you don’t succeed, keep swinging until you do.
That’s what Houston Astros first baseman Jon Singleton learned as he broke the MLB record for longest home run drought snapped by a multi-HR game.
You see, the last time the former Astros player homered and trotted around the bases was back in 2015 – eight years ago.
But Friday, he was able to return to the big leagues in powerful fashion by hitting not one, but two monster shots at Minute Maid Park to help add to his career-high five RBI’s that led the Astro towards their 11-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

The PAC-12 is bringing in Oliver Luck in the conference’s latest last ditch effort to survive.
Only four teams remain in the PAC-12 as of next summer, and Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State are furiously attempting to devise a way to survive.
The outlook doesn’t look good. So far, Cal and Stanford have failed to secure the necessary support to join the ACC, and there’s nothing to indicate Oregon State and Washington State will have soft landings.

Astros first baseman Jon Singleton put together a legendary performance on Friday after roughly an eight-year absence from the MLB ranks.
In the Astros’ Friday matchup with the Angels, Singleton, playing in his third game back with the club this season, notched two home runs in his first two at-bats before going on to finish 3-for-4 with five RBIs.
Prior to the 2023 season, Singleton, who made his MLB debut with Houston in June 2014, spent the last eight seasons in the minor leagues and independent leagues.

Lionel Messi is on an absolute terror through Major League Soccer right now.
The 36-year-old superstar joined Inter Miami last month for the Leagues Cup, and made an immediate impact. In his first match, he came off the bench to slot home a fantastic goal off a set piece to give his team the win.

His financial impact on the game has also been awe inspiring, with Inter Miami’s franchise valuation skyrocketing after his arrival.

Trey Lance will start at quarterback for the 49ers when they begin preseason action on Sunday against the Raiders, coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR-AM on Friday night.
Lance will start Sunday’s game and backup Sam Darnold will play in the second half. Brock Purdy, who emerged as the franchise’s starter late last season, will not play in the team’s preseason opener, according to Shanahan.
Sunday marks the first opportunity for Lance to showcase his growth from his limited action in the 2022 campaign. The former No. 3 pick in the ’21 draft has started four games in two seasons.
