There were rumblings over the years in Green Bay that the Packers didn’t give Aaron Rodgers enough help. The rumblings coming from Rodgers, of course. His new team, the New York Jets, did work in free agency to help him on offense. But just like the Packers, they used their first round pick on a defensive player.
During Rodgers’ tenure in Green Bay, the Packers simply refused to draft a receiver in the first round. In fact, they refused to draft any offense in the first round.
Rodgers will be happy to know that it had nothing to do with him.

Where does TCU’s Quentin Johnston fit in the first-round wide receiver class?
TCU’s run to the National Championship Game was nothing short of magical, and much was due to the performance of standout wide receiver Quentin Johnston. Being named a first-team All-Big 12 selection in both 2021 and 2022, Johnston is coming off a season in which he caught 60 passes for 1,069 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Johnston is on a trajectory to do something special in the NFL, but is he truly one of the elite receivers in this draft class? It is time to find out.

The first round of the 2023 NFL draft has been the unpredictable party that everyone hoped it would be. Well, that is after Bryce Young went No. 1 to the Carolina Panthers.
It once again has been a life-changing night for every player who has had his name announced by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
While a lot of the picks attended the event in person in Kansas City, some have been watching from home and celebrating with friends and family.

With the 21st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chargers selected TCU wide receiver, Quentin Johnston. The freakishly athletic 6’4 wideout amassed 1,067 yards and six touchdowns for the Horned Frogs on their way to the national championship in his junior season. Those numbers would likely have been higher if he had not dealt with a few minor injuries along the way.
A massive target, Johnston combines both size and speed and his unique stop-start ability also shows after the catch. Johnston averaged 8.

The Seahawks selected Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He missed most of last season due to an injured hamstring, but he was a stat sheet stuffer in 2021 with 95 catches, 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns. Smith-Njigba is a slender wideout at 6’1” and 196 pounds, but he’s a strong route runner with impressive ball skills who creates space at the line.

The rivalry between the Eagles and Cowboys is one of the best in the NFL. And if you were curious whether the players on each side think about the other team during the offseason, think no further.
Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons partnered with Bleacher Report for live coverage of the 2023 NFL draft on Thursday night, which meant that viewers were gifted with watching his in-the-moment reaction to the rival Eagles’ first-round pick. When Philadelphia took Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter at No. 9, let’s just say Parsons wasn’t too thrilled.

In moving on from Deshaun Watson—which we realize the Texans had to do—the franchise put itself through organizational hell. The Texans have since made two snap coaching changes, each after a year. They parted ways with a machiavellian executive, Jack Easterby, after a public power struggle. The team separated itself from all of its most notable players and any distant memory of what a functioning program looked like.
And so, the 2022 and ’23 drafts, in which they had four total first-round picks, were supposed to be a reward of sorts and a sign of healing to come.

During ESPN’s NFL draft broadcast Thursday evening, analyst Louis Riddick attracted criticism for an awkward turn of phrase insensitive to Native Americans.
While describing the Cardinals‘ selection of Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. with the sixth pick, Riddick said of Arizona, “they need chiefs on their team. Not Indians. Chiefs.”
The analyst appeared to try and stop himself at the end of his sentence, but his phrasing caught the attention of viewers on social media anyway.

San Diego State could soon be cashing in on the increased exposure from their run to the college basketball National Championship game.
The Aztecs weren’t able to win an unlikely title, but with several major conferences potentially looking to expand, their success couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Pac-12 continues to reel from the rapidly approaching departure of USC and UCLA, with new media rights hanging in the balance.
