Another reminder that this is worth your read.
Onward:
Jon, what did you make of Billie Jean King’s comments the other day that she was willing to go to Saudi Arabia? Seems rather off brand for someone committed to human rights and LGBT rights and generally doing the right thing?
Anon
• I was not there when BJK made those remarks—remarks largely at odds with those of everyone from John McEnroe and Chris Evert to the women’s soccer players who demanded that FIFA reject sponsorship from Saudi Tourism. And I would have loved some follow-ups.

Rose Zhang is so good at golf that she pulls off trick shots when she’s not even trying to.
Zhang, who won in her professional debut just a few weeks ago, is preparing for this week’s U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach. Playing in a practice round earlier in the week, Zhang hit a tee shot into the iconic Par 3 seventh hole. She could have made a hole-in-one and it would have only been the second most impressive thing about the shot.
Draymond Green revealed which player selected before him in the 2012 NBA Draft was the most ridiculous.
The biggest storyline this NBA offseason apparently won’t be coming to an end anytime soon. While appearing on SportsCenter on Tuesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was reporting on the timeline for a potential Damian Lillard trade, and he started by saying “we could be doing this ‘til Labor Day.”
The NBA insider reiterated his earlier reporting that Lillard wants to be dealt to the Heat but the Trail Blazers are not “enthralled” by what Miami has to offer.
It has been a forgettable season for the White Sox so far, but outfielder Luis Robert Jr. delivered a majestic moment Tuesday in the form of a monster home run.
With the White Sox trailing 2–0 to the Blue Jays in the sixth inning, Robert crushed a 450-foot blast to deep left-center field that put Chicago up 3–2. His reaction after making contact was priceless, standing in the batter’s box to admire his work before tossing his bat and jogging around the bases.
It was the 25th homer of the year for Robert, who is in the midst of a career year despite his team’s struggles.
Friction within the Bills‘ locker room appeared to reach a head last month when star wideout Stefon Diggs missed the first day of mandatory minicamp, prompting coach Sean McDermott to say that he’s “very concerned” about the absence. But quarterback Josh Allen thinks the media’s coverage of the situation has overblown the ordeal.
“The media has blown this so far out of proportion,” Allen said on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast. “We are in minicamp.
We can’t fault you for potentially overlooking some of the movement that’s taken place in the NBA over the past week. Dozens of acquisitions have occurred, and billions of dollars worth of transactions have gone down. Neon names have requested trades and are still awaiting their fates. It’s a lot to process.
In light of that, we briefly touched on three of the most interesting under-the-radar moves that teams out West have made. It’s the sister piece to one we wrote earlier in the week on moves in the East.
Going all-in for Blazers star Damian Lillard seems like an easy decision for Miami, but there may be some long-term reasons not to do it.
This is wild.
A new addition to the Las Vegas skyline is one of the wildest things you’ve ever seen.
The Sphere at the Venetian Resort is a new multi-purpose arena and music venue that’s shaped, you guessed it, like a sphere. Built by the Madison Square Garden Company, it also features an exosphere made out of LED Boards, which allow it to project whatever the arena wants.
This week it’s lit up for the start of the NBA Summer League, and it looks like a giant basketball crashed into earth like a meteor. It’s not at all ominous.
The Tigers welcome backed Tarik Skubal to their starting rotation on Tuesday and the 26-year-old left-hander didn’t disappoint as he threw four scoreless (and hitless) innings against the Athletics.
Skubal, who had flexor tendon surgery last August, struck out six of the first 10 A’s batters that he faced in his season debut.
The Tigers ended up losing the game, 1–0, but Skubal’s dominant performance in his return to the mound should have the team and its fans excited about the future.
