The weekend of the 2024 NFL Draft was a productive one for Confefence USA. In particular, it was something of a historic draft for the UTEP miners with not one, but two selections. Three total players from Conference USA schools heard their names called. With those three selections, CUSA has now seen 62 players chosen in the NFL Draft since 2016.
Here are the important things to know about the latest batch of Conference USA NFL talent.

Jalen Brunson’s ground-bound game exasperates opponents across the NBA — and is fueling the most exciting Knicks season in decades.
The Miami Grand Prix is this weekend, but it’s the United States Grand Prix that has some fans talking after the oldest of the three US-based Grand Prix announced that Sting and Eminem will headline this year’s festivities.
But some fans were not happy about this.
Now, you can’t please everyone when it comes to music, and I would argue that Sting — assuming he leans into his solo hits and his work with the Police and not that crappy Renaissance music nonsense he got into later (no one likes lutes, sorry) — would please most people. I know I’d be excited.
Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis exited Monday’s Game 4 against the Miami Heat before halftime after sustaining a non-contact calf injury. It could be a little while before he’s back in action for the Celtics.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Porzingis is expected to miss several games with a right soleus strain. The team announced Tuesday that the 28-year-old would miss Game 5 against the Heat, and it seems that he’ll be unavailable to start the second round, should Boston advance.
The Los Angeles Lakers were bounced from the opening round of the 2024 NBA playoffs Monday night, and reflections on a disappointing season have already begun. After suffering a 4–1 gentleman’s sweep against the Denver Nuggets, coach Darvin Ham appeared to criticize an unnamed starter.
In an article published Tuesday, ESPN’s Dave McMenamin quoted Ham discussing the difficulties of of the 2023-24 season. He did not hold back discussing the shortcomings of an unnamed player on his roster.
“It’s been extremely challenging.
Dan Devine and Trey Kerby discuss the Lakers and Pelicans, who are going home after losing in the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs.
Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone’s wife is having some fun with the controversy surrounding her husband’s timely return to the lineup.
The reigning Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights are locked in a heck of a battle with the Dallas Stars, and Game 5 will take place on Wednesday night in Dallas.
The first goal of the series belonged to Stone and while he’s been kind of quiet on the scoresheet since, his return and subsequent tally reignited discussions about Vegas’ use of the long-term injured reserve that helps them navigate the salary cap.
It would be hard to script a worse start to a season than José Abreu’s first 22 games of 2024.
A year after a solid-if-not-spectacular first season with the Houston Astros, Abreu is slashing .099/.156/.113 with no home runs and three RBI in 22 games. The Astros are struggling as well, with a record of 9-19 relegating them to the American League West’s basement.
On Tuesday, Houston took a drastic step. According to general manager Dana Brown, the Astros and Abreu have agreed on a demotion to the FCL Astros of the Florida Complex League in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Hirving “Chucky” Lozano is in ‘advanced talks’ with MLS’ newest expansion club, San Diego FC, The Athletic report.
San Diego FC joins MLS for the 2025 season, and it seems Lozano could be the marquee signing that helps to usher in a new era. Lozano rejoined PSV last summer after four years at Napoli, and, barring a massive collapse and a series of unlikely events, the Eredivisie giants will lift the league title for the first time since 2017/18. Ironically, PSV last won the league in Lozano’s first stint with the club.
In a league full of questionable tattoos, Ball takes the cake
The NBA is full of pretty bad tattoos. From Mike Scott’s emoji tattoos to the assortment of tattoos that Birdman Chris Andersen had, the ink process for NBA players has been very hit and miss, most of them misses.
However, I don’t think we’ve seen anything like LaMelo Ball’s newest tattoo, and we may not see anything like it again. The Hornets’ star got some new ink on his back and it sure is … something.
