College Football Playoff committee members will finally agree to a new revenue distribution format on Friday, which will ultimately change the landscape of college athletics.
The new distribution model has been in the works for a number of months, with the SEC and Big Ten looking to cash-in on the number of powerhouse teams situated in their conferences. The holdup surrounding the amount of automatic qualifiers for each conference has been kicked down the road, with both mega-conferences realizing that to get the money, they’d have to back off the pursuit of automatic bids.

Each year, the free agency period in the NFL illustrates the silliness of the rat race that is the scoop game.
There’s an entire industry of “insiders,” as they’re called, from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network to Adam Schefter of ESPN, from Jonathan Jones of CBS to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.
The job requires them to frantically await text messages, emails and phone calls from sources that give them a heads-up about a transaction regarding a player or a team.
They then post the news on social media, just minutes before players and teams confirm.

DePaul is expected to hire Chris Holtmann as their new head coach, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein first reported and SI’s Pat Forde confirmed Thursday. DePaul is giving Holtmann a six-year contract, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Holtmann was most recently the head coach at Ohio State, going 137–86 with the Buckeyes over parts of seven seasons. He led Ohio State to five 20-win campaigns and four NCAA tournament appearances, but was fired midway through this season after a 14–11 record to begin the year.

The Washington Commanders are trading quarterback Sam Howell, a fourth-round draft pick (No. 102) and a sixth-round draft pick (No. 179) to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a third- (No. 78) and fifth-round draft pick (No. 152), according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Howell, 23, started in all 17 games for the Commanders this past season. He threw for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns but led the NFL in both interceptions (21) and sacks taken (65). He’ll now head to Seattle where he’ll compete with Geno Smith for the starting job.

New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu and Las Vegas Raiders center Hroniss Grasu’s wedding on Sunday was crashed by a special guest: the Oregon Duck mascot.
Since both Ionescu and Grasu were Oregon athletes, it makes sense that the giant duck mascot would be a guest of honor at the celebrations.
The Duck did have to travel a bit to make it to the wedding, though, as the ceremony and reception took place in Laguna Beach, Calif.
Ionescu included some fun photos of the duck dancing during the reception in her wedding Instagram post.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Hitting two tee shots in the water can typically lead to disastrous consequences, but the scoreboard does not offer that detail about Rory McIlroy’s first round at the Players Championship.
The four-time major champion who won the PGA Tour’s flagship event in 2019 got hot early, made 10 birdies around the TPC Sawgrass course, and saw his name atop the leaderboard on Thursday despite those two water balls that led to a bogey and a double bogey.

Maya Brady, the niece of some retired NFL quarterback named Tom Brady, is tearing the cover off the ball out west.
I know it’s Caitlin Clark season right now in the world of women’s college athletics, and I’m absolutely cool with that.
But when the basketball dust settles here in a few weeks, I’d suggest turning your attention to the UCLA Bruins softball team and redshirt senior Maya Brady.
The 22-year-old is hitting tanks into the Pacific, closing in on HOF records, and mopping up anyone who dares throw her anything close to the plate.
Goodness gracious.

Cornerback Jourdan Lewis is returning to the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal, making 2024 the eighth season he will play with the team. Lewis was drafted by Dallas in 2017 and has spent his entire career with the Cowboys, which included his initial rookie contract and a three-year extension that recently expired.
To announce his return, Lewis took to social media to post a common Vince Carter meme, which was the perfect way to notify the fan base that he was returning.
