Steve Alford had a mostly unsuccessful run as UCLA head coach from 2013-2018, with a mediocre 124-63 record.
His tenure was marred by controversy, specifically the choice to play his son Bryce, over one of the country’s top recruits, Zach LaVine. UCLA in Alford’s tenure failed to advance past the Sweet 16, never won a regular season Pac-12 title, and had just one Pac-12 tournament win in his first season.
After a string of embarrassing losses in 2018, including a loss to Belmont and Liberty, Alford was fired.

The Washington Capitals find themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot, but they’re going to need to do it without Tom Wilson for six games.
The NHL announced on Friday that Wilson will have to sit out six games starting with Friday night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes thanks to a nasty high stick he committed this week when the Caps played the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Wilson got tied up with Toronto’s Noah Gregor. Nothing wild there, but what was wild was when Wilson seemed to blast Gregor across the face with the shaft of his stick.
You can’t do that, Tom.

The SEC could not have had a worse start to March Madness.
SEC basketball is having a no good, very bad, rotten start to the 2024 men’s NCAA tournament. As upsets have started to inflict the bracket in March Madness, a common theme is appearing: SEC teams are more often than not on the wrong side of a Cinderella story.
Eight SEC teams made the field of 68: No. 2 seed Tennessee, No. 3 seed Kentucky, No. 4 seeds Auburn and Alabama, No. 6 seed South Carolina, No. 7 seed Florida, No. 8 seed Mississippi State, and No. 9 seed Texas A&M.
