Real Madrid woke up to scathing criticism from Spanish press as leading outlets accused the star-studded team of failing to show up against Arsenal.
“Without playing anything, there are no miracles” headlined Marca after the team’s limp 2-1 quarter-final second leg defeat at the Bernabeu. The paper turned on Carlo Ancelotti for his “comeback fiasco” which “ends with another defeat to Arsenal”.

Serena Williams has won 23 Grand Slam women’s singles titles – only Margaret Court, with 24, has more [Getty Images]
Serena Williams says she would have been banned for 20 years and had some of her Grand Slam titles taken away if she had committed the same anti-doping offence as men’s world number one Jannik Sinner.
Italy’s Sinner, 23, is serving a three-month doping ban after reaching a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) over two positive drugs tests last year.
Declan Rice was imperious in the Arsenal midfield (Pierre-Philippe MARCOU)
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side came of age as they dethroned Champions League kings Real Madrid with ease to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2009.
A commanding 3-0 first-leg victory last week, lit up by two stunning Declan Rice free-kicks, laid the foundations in London.
But a 2-1 win in the cauldron of the Santiago Bernabeu to complete the job on Wednesday was a significant milestone for Arteta’s rising stars.
Manchester United predicted XI v Lyon: André Onana to start, Rasmus Hojlund to start
Ruben Amorim has confirmed that André Onana will start in goal for Manchester United when they host Olympique Lyonnais in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final.
Onana has been error-prone for Manchester United this season and was at fault for Lyon’s opener in last week’s 2-2 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final.
We are one week away from the 2025 NFL draft. The Washington Commanders look to continue their strong offseason, adding to a roster that surprisingly played in the NFC championship game.
The Commanders enter next week’s draft short on picks. Washington has dealt multiple picks for veteran starters (CB) Marshon Lattimore, (WR) Deebo Samuel and (LT) Laremy Tunsil. Lattimore was acquired at the trade deadline last season and was never fully healthy. The Commanders hope a healthy Lattimore will transform their secondary in 2025.

Declan Rice’s “humble attitude and work-ethic” contribute to him being “such a special player”, says former Arsenal defender Matthew Upson.
After lighting up the first leg against Real Madrid with two glorious free-kicks, Rice provided an all-action display in the second – dominating the midfield and winning player of the match once again.
“He doesn’t miss a game,” Upson told the Football Daily podcast.
Elliot Powell has seen his Jersey Bulls side lose just three games in his 39 games in charge [Lauren Trachy/Jersey Bulls]
Jersey Bulls manager Elliot Powell is confident his side can win the Combined Counties Premier South title.
Bulls know victory over relegation-threatened Sandhurst Town at Springfield on Saturday would almost certainly be enough to become champions.
Bulls are level on points with second-placed Redhill, but their goal difference means their rivals would have to win their final game by 21 goals more than the islanders to take the title.
As the game at the Bernabeu got into gear, and Real Madrid so struggled to open Arsenal in play, they tried to get at them in a different way. They tried to get into their heads, by getting right in their faces. It was a clear tactic, with Bukayo Saka especially targeted. David Alaba went in on him after four minutes. Jude Bellingham had words for Saka before his missed penalty. Dani Carvajal then tried to goad him after it.
Saka simply rose above it by lifting the ball over Thibaut Courtois for the key goal.

Cardiff City manager Omer Riza has been called “disrespectful” for branding some of the club’s fans “clueless”.
Riza has come under pressure with Cardiff in the Championship relegation places with just four games of the season remaining.
