Franklin High School is turning to a familiar name to build on its proud football tradition, as Ruben Torres is set to become the school’s fifth head coach.
He replaces Darren Walker, who was reassigned in February after 18 mostly successful seasons at Franklin. The Cougars were 6-5 with a bidistrict loss this past season.

Torres was part of that success as an assistant for Walker at Franklin from 2018 until he became the head coach at Marlin (near Waco) in 2021.

It’s Fast Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as teams try to get their setups dialed in before qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 this weekend.
This means cars are hitting average speeds of over 230 mph, and in qualifying, drivers have to maintain that for four intense laps.

The 2026 NFL draft is a long ways away and a lot will unfold before then.
But once that draft rolls around, the New York Jets might have a couple extra selections to work worth thanks to compensatory picks.
The NFL awards those selections for teams based on losses in free agency during the prior offseason. The exact formula is unknown, but Over The Cap’s projection has New York earning a couple of comp picks.
Currently the Jets hold their own selections in Rounds 1, 2, 4 and 6 in 2026.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Flyers introduced Rick Tocchet as the 25th head coach in franchise history on Friday, bringing home a fan favorite and one of the NHL’s most respected hockey minds to guide the team through its critical next phase.
General manager Danny Brière made the announcement at a packed news conference at the Wells Fargo Center, calling the 61-year-old Tocchet the “long-term solution” for the franchise’s bench position. The deal reportedly for $25 million over five years signals a serious investment in the franchise’s future direction.

Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty were able to make an impressive run to a WNBA championship last season. They defeated the Minnesota Lynx in five games to win the WNBA Finals.
