Apr. 15—JAMESTOWN — Jamestown High School head baseball coach, Tim Ranum, had an inspiring conversation with senior pitcher Derek Hatlewick in the top of the seventh inning on Tuesday.
“He came out and said, ‘you’re fine, you’ve got it. You feel good?’” Hatlewick said. “I was like, ‘yep’ and he was like ‘all right, go get ’em.’”
The end of the conversation signaled the end of the road for St. Mary’s.
Hatlewick and the Blue Jays delivered a 5-3, 6-5 sweep against Bismarck St. Mary’s .

Because the Wild play in Minnesota, and there is apparently a clause in the state constitution that says local sports teams aren’t ever allowed to do things the easy way, the local hockey club chose drama instead.
Needing just one standings point to make the playoffs for the first time under head coach John Hynes, the Wild got the job done in the most nail-biting, teeth-clenching way possible on Tuesday in their regular season finale.
Joel Eriksson Ek scored an extra attacker goal with 20.9 seconds left in regulation to give Minnesota the one standings point needed.

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe is coming off arguably his best season in the NBA since coming into the league four years ago out of North Carolina. Sharpe has spent the majority of his time in Brooklyn as the backup center to starter Nic Claxton, but the former Tar Heel is not thinking about a bigger role as he heads into free-agency.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Tyler Mahle struck out nine over six sharp innings, and the Texas Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.
Mahle (3-0) limited the Angels to three singles and walked two batters before four relievers finished off the third shutout win for Texas already this year. The right-hander, who missed most of the past two seasons after Tommy John surgery in May 2023, has a 0.92 ERA in four starts.
Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi (0-3) struck out six while also pitching three-hit ball over six innings. He walked two.

Oklahoma Sooners running back Sam Franklin plans to enter the spring NCAA transfer portal when it officially opens on Wednesday, per On3 Sports’ Hayes Fawcett. Franklin, who was part of a crowded OU running back room, will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Franklin appeared in 12 games for the Sooners in 2024, his only season in Norman. He registered 132 yards on 18 carries and appeared mainly on special teams as a kick returner for Oklahoma.
Before transferring to OU, Franklin starred at the FCS level with UT Martin.
