Truth be told, it shouldn’t be that difficult to find decent talent on the opening night of the draft, but night two is where we see teams truly differential themselves when it comes to the quality of their scouting departments, and the discipline to maintain their boards effectively.

The San Francisco 49ers will be without their 5th round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which would have been pick No. 149 — but you might not even notice when it happens.
In 2022 the 49ers found that they had an end of season accounting error on its books. The team misreported its total player compensation to the NFL, but a league review found that the team was still under the salary cap for the 2022 season.

The New Orleans Saints used their first third round pick to select Vernon Broughton. Broughton was the first defensive player drafted and the first piece of true connective tissue to the new coaching staff. First round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. also played at Texas, but where Broughton stands apart is he played for a coach on staff.
When filling out the defensive coaching staff, the Saints brought in a number of former collegiate coaches under Brandon Staley. Two of those coaches, Bo Davis and Terry Joseph, have Texas ties.
