Less than a week after making his first start of the season, Spencer Strider is going back on the injured list.
The Atlanta Braves placed the right-hander on the 15-day IL with a strained right hamstring, which Strider reportedly suffered while playing catch prior to Monday’s matchup with the St. Louis Cardinals. He told the team that he wouldn’t be able to make his scheduled start for Tuesday.
Strider was activated from the IL last week for his 2025 debut after recovering from surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow a year ago.
ATLANTA — Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider strained his right hamstring on Monday while playing catch and was placed on the 15-day injured list.
Atlanta made the move retroactive to Friday, two days after Strider returned from elbow surgery and made his first big league appearance since April 5 last year. Strider allowed two runs over five innings in a 3-1 loss at Toronto, and the 26-year-old right-hander was slated to make his home season debut on Tuesday against St. Louis.
Strider made just two starts in 2024 before UCL internal brace surgery on April 12.

“Matt is a good kicker, he’s still a good kicker,” Ballard said via the team site. “Matt is still going to be a good kicker in this league. I think a lot of it had to do with Spencer. Having Spencer last year gave us a real insight to his talent level.
