An unsuspecting NFL photographer caught a stray football to the face in the Washington Commanders—New York Jets on Sunday, adding a lighthearted wrinkle to a one-sided first half.
Deep in Washington’s territory on a 3rd-and-9, Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian was looking for tight end Tyler Conklin in the end zone, but Conklin couldn’t quite get his hands on the pass. The ball whistled through the air and found a very different target instead: The orange beanie of a cameraman who was just trying to take close-up pictures of the game.
Talk about an occupational hazard.

Every week there appears to be a controversial roughing the passer call in the NFL, and that was no different in Week 16. This week, that penalty occurred in the Minnesota Vikings–Detroit Lions game, as the referees called another questionable penalty.
Vikings linebacker Pat Jones II was rushing to get to Lions quarterback Jared Goff, but made contact with Goff after the quarterback had gotten rid of the ball. While it seemed like Jones didn’t hit Goff too late or egregiously, the referees still penalized him for roughing the passer, much to the disdain of the Vikings team.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco is continuing to impress the NFL world at age 38.
The Super Bowl XLVII MVP made NFL fans believe they were watching the old Flacco on Sunday as the Browns faced the Houston Texans. In the first quarter, Flacco connected with wide receiver Amari Cooper for a 75-yard touchdown.
Then, in the second quarter, Flacco threw a 21-yard dime to tight end David Njoku, followed by a successful two-point conversion, to put the Browns ahead 22–7. All this comes on the heels of last week’s 374-yard performance in a win over the Chicago Bears.

Eastern Michigan athletic director Scott Wetherbee apologized in a statement on Sunday for the giant brawl that took place after South Alabama’s 59-10 victory against the Eagles in the 68 Ventures Bowl on Saturday.
The Jaguars were celebrating on the field at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala., when an EMU player ran on the field and punched South Alabama defensive back Jamarrien Burt in the back of his helmet. The punch led to a huge fight on the field between multiple players from both teams.

We were this close.
I mean this close.
The stage was set. I mean literally set. Deontay Wilder was going to win. Then Anthony Joshua. And then Wilder, as Joshua completed a post-fight interview, was going to climb back into the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and announce a heavyweight fight that has been more than five years in the making.
Alas, it’s boxing. We can’t have nice things. Wilder lost, dropping every round—on my scorecard anyway—in a decision defeat to Joseph Parker. Joshua did his part, stopping Otto Wallin in a throwback performance.
What happened? Wilder isn’t sure.

Only three weeks remain in the 2023 NFL regular season. Then, we can look at the playoff brackets and predict away, knowing full-well we’re trying to predict the impossible.
In the meantime, the only team that have punched their proverbial playoff tickets are the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, with San Francisco having wrapped up the NFC West.
In Week 16, the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs can both clinch their respective divisions with victories.

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t able to help the New York Jets win any games this season but he did come through with a major deed in that he saved the jobs of coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
Saleh was 16-32 entering Sunday’s game in three seasons on the job. Douglas took over as GM in June of 2019 and the team is 25-55 under his watch.
But on Sunday, Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters he’s sticking with both men for 2024.
