After the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Luka Doncic in February, there was a bit of anxiety about whether he would stick around with the team long-term, since he had the ability to opt out of his contract in the summer of 2026.
But those concerns evaporated when he signed a three-year contract extension in early August. It is now generally assumed that he will opt out of that extension in 2028 in order to sign a bigger supermax deal with the Lakers that would last five additional years.
NEW YORK (AP) — Garrett Crochet was in Boston’s dugout on the day before the playoffs began when manager Alex Cora picked up the phone to the bullpen to contact a member of the front office.
“`Tomorrow you’re going to make one call to the bullpen,’” Cora recalled the pitcher telling him.
“I said: `Maybe two,’” the manager responded.
“He’s like: `No, no, no. One. It’s going to be straight to Chappy,’” Cora said.
Crochet backed up his bravado with his pitches.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are set to start their World Series title defense when they take on the Cincinnati Reds in the National League wild-card series. The series will feature three games, all at Dodger Stadium, as the Dodgers won the NL West, and the Reds clinched the last wild card spot on Sunday.
