Goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand made a string of impressive saves to keep alive Iran’s hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time, as they earned a hard-fought point against 10-man Belgium.

ATLANTA (AP) — Sitting on the bench, Saudi Arabia striker Saleh Al-Shehri could only put his head in his hands as Spain extended its lead to 4-0 early into the second half at the World Cup.
Saudi Arabia had always been a heavy underdog against the European champion. But still there was hope for an upset. After all, in 2022, Saudi Arabia had famously defeated Argentina in the World Cup. And, just six days ago, in this very stadium, World Cup debutant Cape Verde had frustrated Spain, holding them to a 0-0 draw.

It took 77 games, but things finally got weird between Rafael Devers and San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello.
Devers, the Giants’ slugging first baseman, wagged his finger vigorously toward Vitello after the rookie manager sent in a pinch-runner for him in the top of the ninth inning at Miami, the Giants trailing by a run.
Yet speedy pinch runner Jonah Cox had already entered. Devers, who’d drawn a leadoff walk, tried to shoo him away from the bag. Yet he had to yield to the rookie who was called up from Double-A on June 1 and left the field cursing into his helmet.

LSU flipped another prized in-state prospect committed elsewhere.
The Tigers secured a commitment from three-star WR Gary Burney Jr. after hosting the 6-foot-4, 200-pound pass-catcher a second time this month.
LSU offered Burney shortly after he declared for Houston during his official visit.
The Tigers kept their foot on the gas with the flip target, leading to this change of plans.
“It’s LSU. I have been dreaming about this since I was a kid,” Burney told Rivals. “I have been waiting for this.

Did anti-time-wasting rule work? De Bruyne waves off medics
Kevin De Bruyne was involved in a curious scene during Belgium’s match against Iran this Sunday (21) at the World Cup.
He appeared to have “turned down” medical treatment for Leandro Trossard after his teammate suffered a hard foul in the attacking third.
Alireza Jahanbakhsh struck the Belgian forward’s calf with the studs of his boot, leaving him down on the pitch for almost a minute and a half near the end line.
Belgium’s medical staff came close to Trossard, but did not enter the field.

NEW YORK (AP) — Chase Burns pitched five innings of one-run ball and survived six stolen bases for his eighth straight win, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Yankees 4-1 on Sunday.
Tyler Stephenson hit a three-run homer in the fourth off New York rookie Elmer Rodríguez (0-2) as the Reds withstood allowing six steals for the second time this season.
Noelvi Marte added an RBI double in the ninth.
Burns (9-1) allowed one run and five hits. He struck out seven and walked three to become the first Reds player to win eight straight decisions since Tom Browning in 1989.

📸 Bum stops Iran taking the lead! It was a 200 IQ free-kick trick
In the second group-stage match between Belgium and Iran, the underdogs had already started celebrating. Only the assistant referee’s flag brought the festivities to an abrupt end.
This free-kick routine without a happy ending definitely would have deserved wild celebrations. A 200 IQ free kick from Haji Safi ultimately went unrewarded.

With the first round of the 2026 NBA draft looming on Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets have attempted to trade up, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The Nets currently have pick Nos. 6, 33 and 43 after finishing with a 20-62 record, just one year after making five selections in the first round. They have conducted workouts with several prospects in their range, though they are considering moving up the draft board.
Brooklyn is reportedly offering its sixth overall pick and additional first-round selections to try to move up into the top four.
