Veteran slugger Nelson Cruz officially announced his retirement from baseball after 19 years in the majors at the age of 43. Cruz made the announcement while appearing on The Adam Jones Podcast on Thursday’s episode.
After starting in Milwaukee, Cruz spent nearly half of his career with the Rangers, establishing himself as a premier middle-of-the-order bat in Texas for eight seasons. The slugger spent most of his early career as a corner outfielder and was a key member of Texas’ back-to-back AL championship teams in 2010 and ’11.

James Harden has yet to play a game for the Clippers after being traded from the 76ers earlier this week, but his teammate Russell Westbrook is already sick of answering questions about star guard.
On the heels of the Clippers’ 130–125 overtime loss to the Lakers on Wednesday night, Westbrook was repeatedly asked about how Harden would fit in with the team on the court. Eventually, Westbrook had enough.
“It’s going to be a process,” Westbrook said when asked about getting Harden into the mix.

“I’m just happy I’m still able to go get them at this point in my career.”
LeBron James has been sarcastically calling himself the ‘Washed King’ since 2019. All James has done since that time is lead his Los Angeles Lakers to an NBA championship inside the bubble, and break the league’s all-time scoring record once held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
James is now the oldest player in the NBA with his 39th birthday approaching in Dec. He’s no longer the best player in the NBA, but on the right night, he’s still capable of resembling something close to that.

It took all of five games into the Golden State Warriors’ new season for Draymond Green to say something profoundly stupid.
Golden State is off to a solid start to the season with a 4-1 record and showing all the signs that it is yet again a contender to win the title. The chemistry on this year’s team is visible as players look like they’re genuinely locked in and having fun playing alongside one another, which was a component many thought was lacking a season ago.

The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season were released Tuesday ahead of a Saturday slate that includes plenty of matchups between teams that made the initial top 25.
In the SEC, No. 14 LSU takes on No. 8 Alabama while No. 1 Georgia looks to extend its 25-game winning streak against No. 12 Missouri. The marquee Pac-12 game pits No. 5 Washington against No. 20 USC in a meeting between the reigning Heisman winner and the current favorite. In the Big 12, No. 23 Kansas State draws No. 7 Texas and No. 9 Oklahoma gets No.

We’re just over a week into the NBA season, and things are still taking shape.
Some teams—Boston in particular—are already off and running. Others, like the Grizzlies, are struggling mightily.
But which players have jumped off the screen thus far, relative to how they looked last season? We compiled a list of the four guys who’ve made the biggest leaps to this point and are undoubtedly contenders for the Most Improved Player award.

Former North Carolina and NBA forward Walter Davis has died, the school announced Thursday. He was 69.
Davis, a native of Pineville, N.C., played four years with the Tar Heels before being selected by the Suns with the fifth pick of the 1977 NBA draft. He ranks among the best sharpshooters in UNC history with a career .531 field goal percentage.
Davis‘s most famous shot came as a freshman in 1974 when he hit a long jumper at the buzzer to force overtime against archrival Duke, completing an improbable Tar Heels comeback from down eight with 17 seconds to play.

A big congratulations goes out to all of the Auburn fans out there looking to enjoy an overpriced alcohol during sporting events on campus.
After kicking the beer can down the road for the last few years, fans of Auburn or opposing fans visiting the campus can now purchase alcohol at sporting events. Unfortunately, if you heard this news and plan on soaking up the suds during the Iron Bowl later this month, you’re out of luck.
