ATLANTA — Viktor Hovland started the day two shots back of Scottie Scheffler, but by the end of the round Thursday, the tables had turned.
The par-3, 15th is one of the most pivotal holes at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, GA. It’s a downhill tee shot onto a peninsula green that is anxiety-inducing.

The Wolverines will utilize four different head coaches in those games, they announced in a Thursday afternoon release.
Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will lead Michigan in its opener against East Carolina on Sept. 2. Minter will be followed by special teams coordinator and special teams coach Jay Harbaugh in the first half against UNLV, and running backs coach Mike Hart in the second half.

Scheffler had control of the tournament for most of the day, but a costly mistake on the back nine breathed life into the entire field.
ATLANTA — Scottie Scheffler had control of the Tour Championship on the front nine, but the back nine was a completely different story.
A disastrous one, in fact.
On the 11th tee, Scheffler was 3-under for his round, going along nicely, and had control of the tournament at 13-under overall.

Bradley took control at East Lake in Round 1 of the Tour Championship. His performance should make him an easy Ryder Cup captain’s pick.
ATLANTA — Keegan Bradley may have played his way into the Ryder Cup after putting on a show during the first round of the Tour Championship. He carded a bogey-free 63 to shoot to the top of the leaderboard. He sits tied with Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa at 10-under.
Bradley put on a fantastic putting performance, making seven birdies, including both par 5s.
Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews is now the NHL’s highest-paid player, but the guy who might top him next is Edmonton Oilers captain and overall scoring machine Connor McDavid.
There are three seasons left on McDavid’s current deal. In a recent interview with Canada’s Sportnet, McDavid continued to voice his commitment to bring a cup to Edmonton for the first time since 1990.
But when it comes to whether or not he was going to sign an extension, he was realistic, which may cause some Oilers fans to start sweating a little bit.

ATLANTA — Early Thursday, reports emerged of a back injury Rory McIlroy had suffered earlier in the week.
After opening with an even-par 70 at the Tour Championship, the four-time major champion detailed what happened.
After a quiet few months, the Cardinals are reportedly closing in on their third deal in the last 12 hours after reaching an agreement to acquire Browns quarterback Joshua Dobbs, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Arizona landed Dobbs, a sixth-year pro, and a 2024 seventh-round pick from Cleveland on Thursday in exchange for a ’24 fifth-round pick, according to Pelissero. Dobbs’s arrival will give the Cards five active QBs on their roster, with the team still looking for a starter to replace injured star Kyler Murray (torn ACL).
