The Hurricanes are back in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in two decades after eliminating the Canadiens 6-1 in Game 5 on Friday night.

Orlando Pride forward and National Women’s Soccer League Golden Boot leader Barbra Banda went down with an apparent non-contact injury in a 3-1 Friday night win against Bay FC and was subbed off.
A Pride spokesperson told The Athletic that Banda is being evaluated and that the club is unlikely to share additional updates Friday.
Banda plays for the Zambian women’s national team and currently leads the NWSL in scoring with 11 goals in 12 games. Two came in Friday’s match, which was delayed about an hour due to weather conditions.

KELOWNA, British Columbia (AP) — Defenseman Landon DuPont scored twice and the Everett Silvertips beat the Chicoutimi Sagueneens 6-1 on Friday night in the Memorial Cup to advance to face Kitchener in the championship game.
The final Sunday night is a rematch of Ontario Hockey League champion Kitchener’s 6-2 victory over Western Hockey League winner Everett on Monday night in round-robin play.
Everett is trying to become the fourth U.S. franchise to win the major junior event, following the Portland Winterhawks in 1983 and 1998, Spokane Chiefs in 1991 and 2008 and Saginaw Spirit in 2024.

The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team heads to Nebraska as the No. 2 seed in the No. 2 seed in the Lincoln regional. They’ll face the No. 3 Arizona State (37-19), who comes into the contest with a bit of momentum.
However, the start time was delayed due to rain and came a bit late. Nebraska is hosting the regional and will face No.

The Los Angeles Lakers could have a real opportunity this summer to start to build a championship-caliber team around Luka Doncic. They’re projected to have up to roughly $50 million in salary cap space, and while some of that could be used to re-sign their own players, they will likely want to also use cap space to bring in at least one outside player to upgrade their roster.

Morton High School moved on to a supersectional while Notre Dame and Dunlap high schools headed to the offseason with sectional title losses Friday in the IHSA girls soccer state playoffs.
Morton knocked off rival Dunlap in Class 2A with a hat trick from Claire Ceresa, while Notre Dame exited the Class 3A playoffs with its only loss of the season.

Southern Miss baseball will need to beat Virginia in an elimination game at the Hattiesburg Regional in the NCAA Tournament.
The No. 1 seed Golden Eagles (44-16) and No. 2 seed Cavaliers (36-22) will play on May 30 (3 p.m. CT on ESPN+) at Pete Taylor Park. The winner stays alive to play on May 31 at 3 p.m. against the loser of Jacksonville State vs. Little Rock, a game scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on May 30.
Southern Miss gave up a ninth inning lead and lost to Little Rock 7-4 in the first game of the Hattiesburg Regional on May 29.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — MacKenzie Gore continued his home-field mastery this season with 6 1/3 shutout innings, Brandon Nimmo, Nicky Lopez and Joc Pederson homered, and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 9-1 on Friday night.
Gore (4-4) allowed four hits and walked one. The left-hander is 3-0 in five starts this year at Globe Life Field with a 2.08 ERA. His 1-4 road record comes with a 5.81 ERA.
The Royals have lost four straight, 14 of their last 17, and fell a season-worst 13 games under .500.
